Thanks for the answers both - actually the comment about the 2 years being somewhat typical of someone with some further career aspirations is quite comforting.
I apologise for not having framed my question more effectively - I was hoping to hear some anecdotes of what would or wouldn't work. My break-even analysis on lost future benefits of jumping ship vs. staying suggests there is very little in it should I achieve a 5k payrise by moving, so I think I will get the feelers out and try and decide whether I want to be in operational management or pure sales.
