Went to Aberdeen this morning in the Cayman to a Porsche Club open day at Aberdeen Porsche Centre. Got diverted off the main A90 at Lawrencekirk which was closed due to an accident, and wasted nearly an hour in traffic on clogged up muddy lanes. After a convivial lunch I set off back to Fife at about 2:30 in good humour. This was rather spoiled by finding that the main road home was STILL closed, so took the scenic coast road. This road is normally a delight, but of course was stuffed solid with traffic, and the journey home was mostly at walking pace. Grrr!

On looking up why the A90 was closed it transpired that a woman had been found dead at the side of the road at 8:00 am that morning, the assumption being that she had been hit by a car. They did not finally re-open the road till 5:30pm, to allow for “investigations” while the whole of NE Scotland ground to a halt. I’d love to know just what our doughnut munching guardians of the law took 9 and a half hours to investigate!!! The enthusiasm for closing arterial roads in this country for hours and hours with no regard to the mayhem caused is frankly ridiculous!
You're a fking idiot.

A woman died and you're whining about the length of time the investigation into her death took. An apparent hit and run with no witnesses, what do you think the investigation involves? The police turn up, go "aye, she's deed" and shovel her into the back of a van? Then they go back to the station and get the playing cards out?

Mate, without having a go....... 9 hours closed and making you drive on some muddy roads full of traffic is a very very small price to pay for someone's life!

You just made yourself sound like a selfish tt IMO.

A death is a major event and will effect many people forever, your delay will bother you for today!!!!!!!!

What a totally thoughtless post. I'm sure most people on here would have nothing but sympathy for the poor woman and her family at a time like this. Your few hours of inconvenience is completely insignificant compared to their loss.

Sorry fella, got to agree with others here. If that was someone you knew or a member of your family you might think a bit different!

I do remember the same comments being made few years ago when Jerry Tobin got shot on the M40 People were moaning about the motorway being closed, even CLarkson got in on it frown the police finally got his killers, so if that road being closed for a few hours helped, then I'm all for it.

Sorry everybody, I meant no disrespect to the deceased person at all. I was just at a loss to understand what took so long.

I attempted to delete this thread, so as not to offend anyone further. Obliged if the moderators could do so.

hmm perth to aberdeen. i can think of a much more enjoyable road for a porsche driver to be taking. 2 hours of blissful driving roads or 1 and 1/2 hours of the a90

Was that you in the red cayman with gold wheels?
If so I was sitting across from you at table (I have blue cayman with PCCB).

Wish you had said this at the table, could have prevented some online embarrasment!

Yse it was me, and re-reading this in the cold light of morning I can see why people have taken such offence, but that was never my intention.

Anyone who travels the English motorways will know the enthusiasm with which the Traffic Officers close motorways, and the mayhem which ensues. I worry that this trend is spreading to Scotland. I was not belittling the tragic incident, merely posing the question was it justified to close a major dual carriageway in both directions for the entire day? How many people missed flights or business connections in the gridlock which was caused? That was my point, and with that I think enough is said.
