I am currently sitting in aberdeen airport departures after going through the full on security groping.
He made a point of telling me the cash (£100) in my pocket was setting off his thingy so i had to remove that to get scanned. My hand luggage has an envelope with £2.5k in it and that didn't seem to raise any eyebrows when it went through the scanner!
It has been ages since I have been on a plane, security is a lot more serious than it used to be, eh?
Last time i was on a plane i got to go up to the cockpit and was in there for the last half hour of the flight, and the landing too. I guess that won;t be happening today

Flew through Teesside airport a year or so back and because there is literally one flight a day the security people there are the most bored ever and when they see a passenger they really like to take their time! I have never been patted down or scrutinised so thoroughly anywhere. So much so that I actually went to walk away twice as I thought he'd finished, only for there to be more! The last person to inspect me that thoroughly was my doctor....

Try going through provincial Indian airports, you tend to get searched/screened at least 3 times from street to gate... And passport checked at least twice from gate-plane!
Woe betide anyone there who forgets to put a tag on their hand luggage, or leaves their boarding card with their items going through the X-ray scanner! Both of these need to be stamped by a border guard before you can proceed to your gate.Yes, I found that in Mumbai too ... one stamps yoru passport on the top of an escalator, and another at the bottom ...
Incidentally, coming back from Egypt last month, I went though security with my family, the staff werent even bothering looking at the screens on the Xray machines.
I started to dismantle the pushchair and found 2x500ml of water in the bottom.. so I left it in there.. my baby daughter went though with her 250ml of orange squash in her hand, and the pushchair went though with the bottled water in the bottom.... Its all a farce
Then .. Friday in Heathrow T4, I admit I was a little shirty with the people that stand infront of you as you head towards security and ask you if you have any liquids. I was late for my flight and, having hand luggage only (with Laptop already in my hand) walked past 4 staff members in the zig zag que, all of which could see me passing the previous member, and all of which asked me if I had any liquids..as the 4th one questioned me, she seemed surprised when I snapped back .. FOR THE 4th TIME, NO !!

I find it weird that they make me take my belt off, but usually they're happy for me to keep my watch on (and it goes through the scanner ok).
There's a hell of a lot more steel in my watch than my belt buckle...
At the security to go airside at work there's a sign telling you to take your belt off and below there's a picture of a couple of belts with knives built in, that's why.There's a hell of a lot more steel in my watch than my belt buckle...

Thus no "ping" and away you to the check in desk.
Why it takes some people 3 or 4 attempts to emty their pockets, remove belt etc is beyaond me. No wonder the security people get a bit miffed.
Last week I saw a person put his hand luggage bag through the x-ray machine but then tried to walk through the scanner carrying 2 plastic bags of hand luggage.....
Luckily in Middle East we don't have to take our laptops, cameras and fluids out of our hand luggage before the x-ray machine.
In fairness Dubai and Muscat airports are fairly consistent in their level of checking.
Why it takes some people 3 or 4 attempts to emty their pockets, remove belt etc is beyaond me. No wonder the security people get a bit miffed.
