Went on this earlier in the year. My first cruise....really enjoyed it when I wasn't really expecting to. It's a lovely ship (if not pig-ugly) but this is a bit worrying, no?

I didn't quite understand how it's "not structural" assuming (perhaps wrongly) that the choppy seas caused it?

the superstructure of a ship "sits" on the hull.

They tend to be made of different materials (lighter for the top, heavier for the bottom).

As a result you tend to find the lighter materials (aluminium) are also a fair bit weaker and more susceptible to fatigue/failure.

The hull of the ship which is what holds the everything together is a lot stronger and more flexible.
