Maserati 3200-£40k

Hi guys,

How come a Maserati 3200 is so good value? Is there a catch here? Are the servicing bills huge? I mean you would probably spend £30k on a new BMW 330Ci so how come a Maserati is a similar cost?

Are they £60K new? I gues that they are quite old now, I remember seeing them in le Mans in 99'. I love the shape of the lights though and they are very suttle but they have a fair bit of grunt. I have never come closer to one than just seeing them on the roads but I have seen many people here have one here. Maybe I will be able to take a closer look at the Ferrari Festival ...

In a nutshell, it'll cost a lot more to run than a 330, but it'll be an awful lot more fun.

Early cars at 25 are possible to find, but avoid them. Buy later 2000+ (ideally 2001+). Either buy private with remaining official maser warranty (best way to get a deal) or buy form dealer (expensive though).

The best cars now will should be no more than 35k private (late 2001 / 2002 / Assetto Corsas).

a lot of the last 3200s (late 2001 / 2002) weren't made to customer order but were stockpiled by FMUK to give them something to sell while 4200Gt stocks started (there was about 5 months of no production) Often these cars were specced very highly (List prices of £70k are not unusual) and because they are competing with similar aged 4200's thay now make excellent buys at around £34 -37K

I've had my 4200 for 5 weeks and 1500 miles now and it is fantastic, never missed a mechanical beat and bloody quick, Handling is very good - with the ability to get the tail out if you want to (ASR off!) 16.9 MPG (max) is a bit frightening but it has got a really big tank so you actually don't make that many trips to the petrol station, it's just a bit of a shock at the till!

Good point exint - mine is most probably one of those - all the toys were on it, and conincidently it's now up for grabs in the classifieds

Thanks for that. Unfortunately I'm not in the position to be owning one, it's just I read about it recently and wanted to hear more from those who own one. They are great looking motors and I just think - if they're so good value, how come I don't see many about??
Is the 4200 a 4.2 engine? What's the 0-60 and top speed?
Have you taken it to VMax? Do the 4200s have the cool rear lights like the first 3200's?

4254 cc and 390 BHP

The new Ferrari 430 is based on this engine though it is in a considerably higher state of tune.

Vmax - er not yet, but it's plenty quick enough 0-62 is quoted at 4.9, and I have no reason to doubt it.

4200 does not have the boomerang lights of the 3200 - blamme out US cousins for that- however it is a "more sorted" car.

To be honest I don't think there is a better value Sports car on the market than a 2nd hand Masser which is why I bought one!

or the 3200 they are a hell of a lot of car for the money, without question.

Could have had a spanking new M3 or S4 or 330 and spare car, but these are special everyday cars.

Not quite true Rich.
Mine is in the classifieds at the mo @ £25795. It is 2001, It has tracker, bluetooth, spare wheel FMSH just had £1600 service and good tyres AND Trident warranty unitll 01/04/05. Maybe I should ask for more
Perhaps you could buy it. Red and Black 3200s side by side outside your house would look stunning.

In Fiarness Ash that was posted 6 months ago - at the time there were few at 25k at all - mostly pretty ropey.
Things move on and you can now I'm sure pick up a decent car for that money...

(I'm sure thats about what I'd get for my 02 however if I traded it!)

Would love another, but I'm driving the red one so infrequently now they would cost me more in parking than they would in petrol
