It would be great if VAG entered F1 and Porsche would be the natural spearhead for the challenge!

I am still not reading too much into that story. It is likely just for the LeMans programme - if you want to win, you need the best and generally : F1 is where you would notionally have to shop. They aren't about to go poaching Audi staff I wouldn't think...

They would just need to strip out fenders of 918 to enter.

As a potential safety car maybe!!
(At above post re 918, not at the original topic.....I see how my comment could be thought to apply to F1 entry too).

How many car brands does the VAG group own now?

A Porsche F1 engine would be cool. With the radical upcoming engine changes there might be a chance to get in with some success. A whole team doesn't make sense to me.

Porsche won't enter F1, they will enter le Mans and they will win in rebodied Audi just like Bentley did.

VW,Audi,Lamborghini,Seat, Skoda, Porsche,Bentley, Bugatti, Suzuki, MAN(truck), Scania(truck). I believe the latest "purchase" was Ducati the motorcycle maker but that is not now at least a car brand.

It would need to be a bit better than their last effort, which was an unmitigated disaster

Porsche = Sports car racing

Leave F1 alone

Porsche returning to Le Mans in 2014 has been announced publically already and there is rumour of F1 "involvement" but how much is, as yet, unclear.

It wouldn't be the first time Porsche has dipped a toe in the F1 pond though.

Return to the Porsche Turbo Tag engine days when it won everything, but somehow can't see it. Le Mans 2014 is where the action will be, Porsche back to where it ought to be kicking ass on the world endurance stage.

I don't see it happening, but there is a certain amount of sense in such a move and a return to supplying McLaren would not lack logic.

My doubts about the engine lay in that it's terribly expensive, technically challenging and very competitive. It doesn't do much good if the money can be better spent else where or if the engine is not competitive. That said, they could draw the engine technology back into a production vehicle.
