Ok, firstly sorry for the confusing title....

I'm trying to find out if you buy the 3.4 Carrera (991) without PSE when you press the 'Sport' button does the cabin noise increase as a result of the sound symposium ?

Personally I'm trying to spec a more, 'Lux' spec, so something that most of the time is just a great GT car but still has a little something for the odd occasion. So I'd rather save on Sport Chrono and PSE and spend it on other toys.

So they all come with Sport just wondering if the aurial experience is enhanced with 'Sport' on.

I need to drive a PDK without sport chrono and see if the new PDK shift programme is entertaining in just 'Sport'

.....I'm getting old and this will be a keeper so trying to get the spec just right, although I currently have Chrono + and PSE to be honest 95% of the time its just in auto so good is the PDK but and its a big but I don't want to completely lose the thrill of that 5% let your hair down escape from the day to day grind feeling S+Chrono +PSE gives, if this makes any sense at all.

Thanks,

We at PH are sectioning you under the Mental Health Section 3

Section 3 allows a person to be admitted to hospital for treatment. It must be necessary for you to receive this treatment for:

your health
your safety
for the protection of other people

In addition the mental disorder must be of a nature or a degree that requires treatment in hospital.

You can be detained under Section 3 if you are well known to the psychiatric services and there is little need for assessment. Alternatively, you may be detained under Section 3 following an initial admission under Section 2.

Thanks for the counselling session, I'll go buy the AM V8, yep you're right, sorry for being so utterly stupid, its only when you read it back you realise you're buying the wrong car.

Sorry.

yes, it does. I had a C2 Cab without PSE for a weekend in April 12, and there is definitely an increase in noise with "Sport" on .. noticeable, yes. As noticeable as PSE, no. I estimate that it's about 25% of PSE noise increase.

this is what I wrote in Mar 12:

Pressing the SPORT button increases exhaust noise and rortiness .. I tested this many times, and yes, the exhaust note (non PSE car) becomes rortier and louder in SPORT mode. In SPORT mode, exhaust is similar in volume to 997 Gen II PSE on.

LOL !!

You're ok, I'm still on track ;-)

So anyway ironically within 10 mins of my post I heard back form an OPC, they checked the workshop manual and the unit is fitted to all models, the key difference is that without PSE the system is activated via the Sport button and on PSE cars via the PSE button (which comes on when you press 'sport' anyway, in the 991). My confusion was I saw a review saying it was fitted to all models but then the reporter pressed the PSE button, and I thought but you only get that with PSE etc......

So I'm going to try one tomorrow without PSE to see if its good enough for me, if it was a convertible I'd have to have PSE but in the coupe all shut up its the internal sound I'm interested in, will it make me smile. I'll report back....... and also the result on whether Sport Chrono + is essential.

Thanks,
You don't need either tbh. If you want to try a 3.4 PDK "stripper" OPC Tonbridge have a demo car.

The 3.4 and 3.8 are more than adequate without the PSE.

Right ok tried it out and I can confirm the 991 3.4 without PSE but with sport on is a louder better sound in the cabin than my 2.9 Boxster with the roof up windows closed and PSE on. It sounds just perfect all very subjective and personal opinion but I loved it. As for Sport Plus I rekon you do need it, Sport is good but that new PDK in sport plus is just so intoxicating the whole experience is better. In my 987.2 I find Sport plus jerky on the downshift at lowers speeds coming up to a junction or stopping at a roundabout the 991 is silk smooth and the rev matching is just amazing such crisp blips. I have read on here that some people prefer the more raw feel of the older PDK but personally again having done 7500 miles in my current PDK Boxster the 991 PDK is far far improved. The car also had the sports seats which are just superb, and I found no need for PASM on the 20 inch wheels I found the standard setup ride great, even on B roads, I'm no driving god and again its just my opinion PASM is clever but personally I wasn't left thinking it was night and day I found the ride over the bumps no problem without it.

Anyway the good news is we found an exact match to my spec 'in the system' so I took a deep breath and bought it now just have that horrible feeling while I wait for a delivery date.

I'm so pleased, waited all my life to tick the item on my bucket list entitled 'Go into Porsche dealer and buy brand new 911' worked hard long hours and finally I have achieved it..... well nearly its not in my hands yet but the day I no longer need to 'TryHarder' is in sight !

Well done that man. July build means 2013 car. Should have the teething problems ironed out and many miles of happy motoring ahead. Different league to an Aston. Enjoy in good health.

Yes I was told 2013 car but I must admit I didn't really pay much attention I was, and still am coming to terms with the fact that God willing this time next week I'll have a new 911, just hasn't sunk in, been a dream for so long.
