looking at 7.2GT3

car is nearly 3 years old.

1st service was not done. 2nd service (major, spark plugs etc) done at 3 years old.

mileage is approx 6k.

OPC says don't worry, it's fine.

what would you say if you were thinking of buying the car?

If its on the Porsche warranty, nothing to worry about. But then I'd never buy a Gen.2 GT3 anyway because of those stupid centre locks!

Phone another OPC posing as an owner trading in a car that had missed its first service. Ask them how that affects the value. If they say "makes no difference" you're all set...

Of course it makes a difference, the differential will be however subjective, however as think may be significant.

As above, try the situation with the roles reversed.

1st service is most important isn't it? Well it is on bikes at least as it washes out the bedding in.

Would put me right off - what kind of owner buys a GT3 and then doesn't service it?

So the 24,000 mile/4 year service was done at 6000miles/3 years. The car not having a 2 year/minor service. I'd see the fact it's had the major as a plus, if I was intending on keeping it for a good few years to come. What about the brake fluid and bi-annual paint check to maintain the paintwork warranty? Personally if it's not had these then I'd walk...

OPC says "don't worry, it's fine."

Two years later upon trade in... nono

Mine was the same. First owner somehow missed the service.

The OPC were happy enough to give it a once over and then put a warranty on it and the previous owner had previously done a major so I wasn't worried.

Can't quite understand how someone can spend so much on a car and then completely miss the service interval though!

And, what else was 'missed?' OPC warranty or not (would love to see the pre-sale check report), it'd have me twitching...

It's probably OK given the mileage - but like others have said - check elsewhere. Personally I have my cars serviced every year, regardless of mileage! smile

3 years no oil change on a high performance engine seems madness to me.

no doubt in my mind this will bite (and hard!) on resale

I would have said the same if the car had done some miles

but the cars only done 6k miles I bet the oil was fine and in better nick than some one doing a track day all day and having 2 year service done.

the only issue for me would be OPC resale and buyers in the future or any engine warranty claim.
Then it come back to bite you in the arse, so having said that the car need to be a lot cheaper in the 1st place.

My concern would be that the car may have spent those first few years on the track?

Is there any other information available to corroborate it's apparent lack of attention for 3 years????

A chat with the last owner might be very enlightening!

car has no rev range readings which helps

asking price assume perfect service history, if not more

How do you know how the 6k miles were accumilated?

the car would have been asking/warning re: 1st service due too.

shows lack of care from the owner IMO

Then it's a No. Regardless of how it spent the first years, there is no documented provenance to back it up. In the past selling any of my performance cars without a first service would have been difficult. All buyers were fussy about when the services occurred. None particularly questioned where ( so main dealer service did not count for much) as long as it was at a specialist, and in one case it added to the value, since it had been maintained by one of the top indys.

The price has got to reflect the condition/servicing, since it definitely will on trade in. Opc may take it in, but I can't see one of the good indys wanting a car with a missed first service.

Additionally after the first two years of use, according to the oil manufacturers, oil starts to lose it's properties especially if subjected to short trips.

Oil degrades in time as well as mileage I think so the oil must have lost some of its efficiency.

Not sure why someone mentioned brake fluid and paint warranty, that really is not a problem.
