Would suggest chipped, roast, gratin, or if unavailable.. baked... with butter accompanying potatoes as suitable veg....
The XL Challenge was initialised by the Blue Ecke last April after destroying 3 Mega XL's, then the Head Chef challenged me to do 5 XL's & if I did it it was free & would pay me too the equivelant value. I declined & stated I'll do 6 Mega XL's but the money goes to a local children's Charity in Adenau or nearby. I'll be back in October to do the challenge which we shook hands on & agreed.
We arrived at the Blue Ecke after the DN day & stated to the waiter the above, he came back to the table & confirmed the go ahead for the challenge specifiying the 6 well done burgers & not to forget the chips either...
I did 5 with ease in around 20 mins inc chips the last burger took near the same time but using tactics the Adam Richman off Man V Food uses
, finaly the last one was despatched in similar time which took some doing I have to admit.
Then come to the medal ceremony, the Blue Ecke management renaeged on the challenge via the waiter. Then the owner Pierre 'Pugwash' came over to the table to express the Head Chef who doesn't work here anymore so you have to pay 48 Euro's for the 6 burgers & chips.
I went into 'Ring' mode & gave the Frog a controlled verbal battering & vented my displeasure especially the Charity ommission aswell which we all were totally disgusted with, to compound it even worse the best he can do was to "Do a deal!' on the burger payment, I sat back, paused & reminded him that he is responsible for his staff & the Challenge was from the Blue Ecke as far as I'm concerned, gave him the glare which then he retreated to the bar for a bit. I was ready for Police presence by now & I would of embarrassed him even more than already.
After around 15 minutes 'Pugwash' came back & relented & would forfiet the 48 Euro's for the 6 Mega XL challenge & donate to Charity as specified in April, in the end he looked like a complete TiT, If he had anything about him he could of publisised the challenge & I'm sure many Brits that come over would have go at the challenge which would generate more trade to their establishment. Still it took the shine off my final challenge which started in Benidorm 96.
We have now banned ourselves from the Blue Ecke although I will go in & see Pugwash on next Ring visit & make sure he has donated to a Children's Charity...
