Can you identify this rap(?) song?
Discussion
There's this song which I'm trying to remember the name/singer of. Was in the charts somewhere between 1984 and 1986 (confident about that span, because I recall discussing this song with the sixth-formers I was teaching at that time) and I have it in mind that it was a rap number - possibly notable for being the first, or one of the first, rap songs to hit the British charts.
The only thing I can remember of the song itself is that the story involved the guy being stopped by the police, and the phrase "don't you give me no producer" was repeated a number of times. The singer was a slim-looking black guy with a big grin (and me knowing that would suggest it was on TOTP a time or three).
Does that phrase ring any bells with anybody??
Thanks for any response...
Tony.
