...to buy a real 911. Not only will the next 2004 model have a massive v8 as an option, the classic & legendary sillouette sloping shape will be lost, to fit the v8 lump in! I don't fancy a hunch backed v8 tourer like the 928. Looks like I'll be keeping my new carrera for ever! No sloping roofline. I cannot believe it. Rennlist is full of info too.

"Mounting the 60-degree V8 longitudilly in the 911's tail has presented packaging problems"

End of an era.

I can't believe they will be getting rid of the flat 6. Its what the whole car is about - they might as well stick it in the front if they are getting rid of the flat 6 .... oh they've already tried that......

Porsche aren't actually ditching the 'Flat-6', but offering the V8 as a more powerful option. Not sure if the new Turbo would be based on a Flat-6 or a V8 though.

Turbo will be a V8. Apparently the carrera will be offered in "6 or 8 cylinder" options. It's not clear whether the six cylinder option will be the V8 with two cylinders missing or indeed a flat 6 option.

Either way the body shape will be hunch backed to accommodate the V8, regardless of which lump you go for.

One by one the essential elements are being removed. What's the bet that the next 2008 generation will be a front engined V8 911.
