Where would be the best place to get a code for short term Gold membership?

A quick search here reveals that sometimes Microsoft give you cheap membership for a month or two, although I've never seen such an offer...

If you've had Gold, and lapsed it, there's often an offer somewhere on the Dashboard. MS will not match this when you ring them (it's more than 2 days though).

I've used Fleabay before with no issues.

Their best offer is 39.99 for 12 month. No other offer or even a way of just buy 6/3/1 month...

rolleyes

Off to fleabay then...

I just bought 12 months from here for £28. They emailed the code within 30 seconds of payment

I only wanted the temp code so I could sample the new Forza demo. I think I'll just wait for it to be released generally and if it's good get a cheap full year's subscription.

I'll have a sniff tonight and see if I can find a 48 hour code in one of my cases.

If it's only for a demo can you not do the old create a new dashboard account to get a free month trial?

Just tried that, same £40 for the year "offer". Woo.

Someone at Microsoft really doesn't want me to get Gold access...

They used to do that. £1 for a month, or £3 for 3 months. But they stopped doing that at the start of the Summer (sadly). And I've never seen an offer since.

I refuse to pay full whack for it.

I think it's due to the fact with the overwhelming majority of PC games you just buy the game, then it's free to play online forever. While Microsoft will charge £40/year for the privilege. If it was £20/year I'd happily pay it, but £40, okay it's nothing really, but it's taking the piss IMO.

Plus the fact that XBox live servers are HORRIBLE it terms of lag/performance etc. it's like being on dial up again!

Try dealing with PSN.

XBL is well worth the £30 most sensible people pay!

Either you are grossly over exaggerating or you have a st internet connection. XBL servers are far superiors to Sonys, hence why I am more than happy enough to pay such a tiny fee if it means I get to play in smooth online matches. The only time I ever see lag is mostly due to an issue with there connection.

Dial up....Yeah right! Go try PSN and then you will see how smooth XBL is in comparision.

Sorry? confused Never played on PSN so no idea how good or bad it is, or if even it's free or not!

I haven't got a 50meg fibre connection, just an 6-8meg broadband. I'm comparing my experience with PC games - likes of Left 4 Dead 2, Live for Speed, Minecraft etc. - granted I haven't done any proper like for like comparison, but in my experience these tend to be smoother and less laggy online than with Xbox live games - Forza 2/3/4, Halo, GTA4 etc. TBH I find these closer to the experience I had with CS, Battlefield 1942 (with 16 others in tanks/jeeps/planes try to blow the st out of each other) over a 56k connection with vehicles/players regularly stuttering.

I also find the auction house in Forza 3/4 quite simply worst, laggy interface I have ever used. Outside the Xbox I don't have any trouble with anything else, Youtube HD, complex webpages load up briskly etc.

This makes playing even £30 (let alone the £40 RRP) somewhat difficult to justify especially as playing typical PC games online costs £0. Although Forza Horizion might just encourage me to have another go, has it improved at all over the year?

If PSN is actually worse then Xbox Live feel sorry for PS3 owners hehe

It's ok, I just wanted it so I could sample the Forza Horizon demo. I've played it now using my brother Xbox, so it's just matter of time now before I pick the game up.

I always search for the 12 + 2 month gold subscription on eBay, currently a bloke on there selling for 29.99 sent me the code in under an hour on a Sunday at 8 o'clock so can't be that bad.

I use this site
http://www.cheapxboxlivecodes.com/
Currently £25.99 for 12months which is great, they email the code within a couple of hours, done it three or four times now and not had any problems, you can pay via paypal too so that it is secure!
