We drove through Arbroath on the way home from KH on Sunday. That would have been around 16:30 I guess.

On the horizon due east of Arbroath was a funny looking thing.

It was very tall (high) and looked like some sort of structure.

I texted a friend who lives nearby and he'd seen it and described it as looking like a light ship. That's how it looked to me - like a moving light house.

We wondered about it maybe being a bit of a wind turbine. I also thought it could parhaps be a jack-up in transit (although that doesn't make sense considering location / water depths).

Anyone know anything? ... or have any theories?

Cheers,

Any chance it could have been a tower fitted to a well intervention vessel?

Few of those around at the moment.

Good shout James - thanks.

Too big to have been the likes of "Wellservicer" or "Well Enhancer" I think.

Could have been "Island Constructor" though ... and who better to tell me if she was in transit off the east coast on Sunday afternoon?!?! winkbiggrin

Any idea?

Cheers,

It is the Bell Rock Lighthouse. Unless you were seeing something else.

I am fairly sure it was not the Bell Rock, it was too close in and appeared to either be under tow or certainly being attended by another vessel (anchorhandler?)

I thought perhaps it could have been a drill ship.

I saw this heading south at Stonehaven about 16.10 yesterday. It looked like a barge being towed by a tug, with an offshore module of some sort on the barge.
