Hi,
Off to the 'ring and Spa next week. First time on the Eurotunnel with the GT3.
Is there a way to get on and off (use a different ramp or train compartment) the train without ripping the splitter off?
Anyone got any experience of that?
Cheers
Jack

Ask JeremyC - although he does seem to consider them consumable items.

Never heard of it being a problem on the Chunnel, for downstairs at least.

A couple of times when using the eurotunnel I've been directed to the single decker carriages that hold coaches - usually along with other exotica (Lambo and a couple of Astons last time). Sadly I only have a 996 C2 and not a GT3 and it will happily enter and exit the regular upstairs carriages.

my nonsense runs as low as I can go for street car and never had issue with tunnel train after 15 crossings.

ferries are more of a challenge, the Sea France loader at Portsmouth harbour actually stopped all traffic and ordered the entire hydraulic pier lifted a full meter to flatten out entry ramp for me. Liked that bloke a lot.

Thanks for the quick replies.
Having unintentionally removed the splitter twice this week already I was getting a bit paranoid that the slopes on the ramps might be an issue.
Thanks for allaying my fears.

Still taking a spare splitter and 30 clips with me just in case...

When you go past the passport people go down the lane that says "high vehicles" that's the single decker bit that's also got no 'pavements' so you dont have to worry about your wheels either. If anyone questions you act dumb.

Most of the staff will notice your car and direct you to the lower floor. If they don't, and it happened to me in my Turbo, when exiting the ramp use your handbrake to slow down which should push the front up enough to avoid the floor!

Or do as above and follow the high vehicle queue and get in with the lorries etc. biggrin

If you call the booking line and ask for it specifically they'll sell you a ticket in the full height carriages. No upper deck, in other words. In those you're definitely fine, and it doesn't cost you any more than a normal ticket.

They're easier to drive into, too - the aperture felt wider when I did it last.

Dont forget the double-sided adhesive tape... That is the most important bit!

I'm not sure about the tunnel but if you're planning a driving holiday in the Alps; don't. Go to Holland, much flatter.

The full height part of the train is wider too. Best to call in advance, but in the past we have also requested to be put in the full height compartments during check-in.

+1 This
No need to book in advance. Just go in this lane and Bob's your uncle

irked I'll have you know my last splitter was on for seven and a half years, including many, many Eurotunnel crossings. smile Mind you, I did lose it in a snowdrift in Switzerland this year. hehe

As has been said, make sure you get on the lower tier of the carriage and you'll be fine - my GT3 is slightly lower than from the factory and has always been fine.

They are quite happy for you to use the "high vehicles" , never have an issue with that.

The Ferry used to take splitters off all my 996 GT3s repeatedly, no technique saved them. Got adept at putting them back on , sometimes in the rain, on the exit to the port.
