Had a quote from my OPC to have a SS fitted to my Spyder.

£498 - I thought a tad expensive, but just wondered if anyone has had it done cheaper by an OPC?

Considering it was £388 factory fitted option I guess an extra £100 or so is not so bad from an OPC for retrofit

If you can get the parts either DIY or an Indie, surely? I'm sure I've seen photos of how it's done and it wasn't THAT difficult...

ETA: For a 996, but may be of some use: http://www.6speedonline.com/forums/996-turbo-gt2/2...

Thanks.

Is it worth £500?

I've only sat in one to try the SS - never driven one.

I love it on my Cayman - much much MUCH prefer the shift quality and speed over standard, which is too long a throw for my taste. However, it can be a bit stiff for some tastes, especially when cold - my wife, for example, would be better off with the standard shifter. I'd always spec it on a manual car - though £500? That does seem a lot of cash to part with for it.

I don't like the short shift kit personally. I would try and drive one before buying.

you might find it stiff first thing in the morning. As anniesdad says, try someone elses first to see if you like it

I have a Cayman gen 2 2.9 curtosy car at the moment with the std. shift and it's a nice shift but I do prefer the SS I have on my Cayman R which gives it a much more precise shift with a more positive feel. Is it worth £500... I would say yes and I would spec it again on a manual Porsche if I was buying again.

A few mention the SS is stiff, especially when cold but my experience so far has been without issues and I dont find it that stiff at all. I do agree it's stiffer than the std. shift but not to the point where it is an issue.

Yeah....thanks.

I sat in Mrdemon's Spyder and tried it (making brum brum noises) and didn't find it stiff.

So if some find it stiffer than others, does this mean some are fitted better than others?
Or even those that aren't stiff are the ones fitted at the factory?

Mine is often stiff first thing in the morning. The wife doesn't like that, or the gearbox.

I wouldn't describe the action on my 987.1 as stiff, perhaps 'requiring a little more heft' might be apt.

I think if the kit is the same as the 997, it costs about £120 plus VAT so about £350 fitting cost including VAT seems very strong just so you can have the whole thing warranted when it is fitted? I bet a good indie would fit the kit for under £100....I managed to fit one to a 986 & I'm no whizzo with cars biggrin

I'd thought of this....but as you say - the warranty.
The car's only a year old.

Have it on my CS and don't find it stiff, as someone else said, just a bit more direct and requires a bit more effort. The CR I drove last week didn't have it and I thought that didn't feel like a sports car gearbox at all, the throw was just too long.
