new Di2 bikes avaialble from Oct 12 which surprises me, if previous years are anything to go by, I wouldnt have thought Halfords will get a new range of Boardmans in until at least Apr 2013. Prices are high and there is some serious cometition at that money....

I think the Virago looks good value. It sometimes drops to £900 from £1,000, so with my British Cycling 10% that would be £810.
At the risk of breaking one of the rules involving admitting buying a Halfords bike I got one when a regular offer lined up with one of their web offers as well. Cost was £829 as they honoured both discounts, if they'd include your BC discount you should do even better - just keep a regular eye on the web site.GnuBee said:

I think for £1000 there's probably better around; for example the Giant Defy 1 or perhaps a Ribble but for £829.99 it's hard to argue against - you're getting a decent carbon fibre frame and fork. A sprinkling of Shimano 105, FSA and it's BB30. The only thing(s) I'll change will be the wheels but that can wait - the bike is so much better than I am. I've really only just returned to cycling so I've only done 600 or so miles on it, I'm not the lightest person on the planet and I've not detected any of the flex mentioned in the review on Bike Radar but then my power output is likely to be roughly equivalent to an 8w energy saving bulb.
It is very comfortable, more so than a Cinelli I used to ride around on 10 years ago.
It's also very nicely finished - the quality of the frame, the partial paint work etc is all very well done. It looks like an expensive bike which may or may not be a factor. Certainly my friend who rides around on some very expensive Dolan thing was impressed and surprised.
