And the point of this thread is what, exactly?
Oh, and please tell me how a Lightning had a 'FlightDeck' as opposed to a cockpit.
I was going to ask who pissed on your cornflakes but decided to check out the clip first..Oh, and please tell me how a Lightning had a 'FlightDeck' as opposed to a cockpit.

Not even worthy of being in the you tube thread IMO, let alone having it's own thread

Interesting listening. Accident summary here:

Ian Black's book 'Last of the Lightnings' includes his account of this accident (he's 'Blacky' on the recording) along with some photos of the burning jet.

Hmm, there was a cadet of that name a year or two above me, and he was a friend of Guy Bancroft-Wilson (later Red Arrow)

Lessons in being a Pedantic git are obviously high on the curriculum at Cranwell.
i would have thought as an ex APD it would be of interest to you if no one else..............

Ian Black originally trained as a Nav and was a WSO on F-4's in RAFG in the early 1980's. He trained as a pilot and has the distinction of being the last RAF pilot to qualify to fly the Lightning.
His father is AVM George Black, who was also a well known Lightning pilot, and had been an early Lightning CO when he commanded 111 Sqn in the early 19060's.

If he went to Woodbridge School then that's the man (not that he'd remember me) - and Woodbridge was in the thick of much RAF/USAF activity in the 70s. Another OW and Lightning pilot was Bob Lightfoot (before my time, but I met him at a dinner and he had eyes that would cut steel at 50 paces). http://www.mhas.org.uk/memories/RobertLightfoot.ht...Ian Black originally trained as a Nav and was a WSO on F-4's in RAFG in the early 1980's. That's great to listen to, particularly at the end, 16 mins onwards.
Edit it's a pax ride in a Lightning.
