Any Arborists in here?

I'm currently doing a 10 week tree surgery course, at the end of it I'll hopefully have passed my CS30,31,38 and 39...

Just wondering how many of you lot work in the tree industry?

Yep, I am. Started out in domestic, got bored quickly, moved to utilities. A lot more variety, and if I really fancy, I can still take domestic work at weekends. Where did you train, and what are you looking to do when you have your tickets?

I'm at Otley College at the moment mate. Not quite sure what route I want to go down to be honest, I'll be glad to just start earning! I'd like to work abroad in the future once I've got experience, the climbing side interests me!

Well opportunities are there, but it can be hard to get something full-time sorted. Have you worked in the industry before? And what qualifications do you get at the end of the course? I didn't realise you could do a 10 week course lol! And I'm not far from there, drive past the college on my way to work!

Having just called in an 'Arborist' to do some work, I haven't asked to see his certificates. Hope I don't regret it!

NPTC tickets are the ones to look for. Lantra is also recognised, but have to be renewed every five years. Knowing if they're insured is also handy, makes things easier for you if anything does go drastically wrong!

I'd be far more concerned about his liability insurance than his certificates.

Well the 10 week course used to be a level 2 but we're the first group to do it since It's changed to a level 3 so if all goes well In 9 weeks time I'll have a level 3 certificate as well as CS30, 31, 38 and 39!

I've done a bit of work in the industry, just dragging brash as well as other random bits and bobs. I actually started the diploma in Arb two years ago but I left about 6 months in to start my basic training for Army but unfortunately I got medically discharged!

Understandable, and I'd be the same. I would also want the arborist I'd booked to be competant for the job I want him for, hence looking at the tickets he has.
