It's Friday (whoopee!) and I shall soon be wending my weary way home to the arms of my loving family and an ice cold Beck's which nestles comfortably at the bottom of the fridge. Before I can enjoy these simple pleasures however I shall have to endure the inevitable Friday evening traffic jam in Epsom town centre.

This is not caused by the weight of traffic on a Friday, nor by people's impatience to get stuck into the Friday night beer. No, this traditional snafu is due entirely to McDonalds.

On Friday at 6:00pm, McDonalds have a delivery to their Epsom high street "restaurant" and since there is no access from the rear they park a 40ft trailer and tractor in the high street, across several bus stops and hard up against a pedestrian crossing, hence reducing the A24 to a single lane, no lanes when a bus needs to stop, and backing the traffic up for miles.

This is despite double yellow lines and a posted "no loading" restriction which clearly prohibits them from loading or unloading until after 6:30pm.

They could schedule their deliveries outside the rush hour but it is clear that McDonalds are perfectly happy to disregard the law when it suits them to do so, even when by stopping across bus stops and so close to pedestrian crossings that they place members of the public in danger. Even when it adds significantly to the journey time of thousands of commuters.

This makes one wonder what other laws they feel able to disregard when it suits them. Employment law for example, or perhaps food safety regulations.

I think I'll give their "restaurant" a miss to be on the safe side and eat somehere where they try to stick to the rules.

There *must* be some suitably imaginative retribution to be had here....

and yes - "what is this employment law you speak of" is in the McDonalds management phrasebook....

Actually, I think that sort of behaviour requires a stanley knife to the truck's tryes every time they do it (they'll soon stop ) and a few complaints to the council/police etc. What a bunch of prize tossers.

You should try working along the same road as Golden West Foods (aka the burger bun makers to MacDonalds). They have countless delivery lorries in and out of that factory every day, plus numerous delivery lorries just parked in the street. It's a huge accident waiting to happen. If you ever read about a big pile up in Hemel Hempstead - it'll be something to do with the Golden West delivery lorries. Oh, and this is the only place where I've seen sugar being delivered by the tankerload - they have silos of it over there. Just think of that next time you let your kids have a Happy Meal.

As long as you dont 'stuff' anything to excess, an occasional crappy meal wont hurt.

Talking of which I'm off down the pub to 'stuff' beer down my neck!

Come on be fair, its not the drivers fault he is only doing his job etc etc and he has to get home to his love ones and a beer too.

We could email Mcd's HQ with complaints?

Good point - I was thinking soley of annoying the next drops he wouldn't then get to, hence getting the other franchises to complain so he won't stop at that one any more

Could just follow him and park right behind the artic so he can't open it (anyone got an offroader they don't like? )
