Hi All,

I am getting various intermittent faults occurring on my 996 Turbo S, starting with (everytime the car is cold) the old favorite;

- PASM/ABS (this resets as soon as engine warmed up)

Then not so often (happened 3 times in all)

- the TIP gearbox defaults and sticks in 3rd (again if you stop and switch ignition off, it clears)

and a couple of other randoms

- Spoiler not activated (it had)

- CD changer not located

A couple of points to note, this has only started recently after a period where battery run low enough to prevent starting of car, and I had only just had it remapped with an exhaust (DMS). The only one I had ever seen prior was the PASM/ABS which came on after a long lay off from use, and cleared after a good run.

Anyone have any ideas....I have to wait 2 weeks to get it into a diagnostics center??

Also, should I warn them about the remapp in case the "reset" the ECU??

Thanks

If you have not done so, seriously consider replacing the battery. At least have it thoroughly checked out.

Even though the battery starts the engine the voltage level drops low enough it can upset the electronic controllers on the various communication buses which can explain the behavior you see.

If the PASM/ABS error hangs around even with a good battery that can arise from a faulty (intermittently so) MAF which provides data the DME uses to calculate engine load which is used by various controllers for their functioning.

You should always let the shop know beforehand of any mods, be it DME or exhaust or whatever and get this noted on the work order. If for instance you didn't mention the remap and the car came back with it gone (highly unlikely but I'm just saying) you have a much better chance of getting something positive done about it with this being listed on the work order.

It also lets the tech know standard DME scan behavior or other related computer diagnostics may not work the same on your car and it can save him time and you money.

Sincerely,

Rockster.

Thanks rockstar, I will get a load test on the battery pronto as it did go flat on the missus when I was overseas working. She charged it then, but I suspect your right and it could be weak still.

I suspect the PASM/ABS issue is separate issue, so will take it to the diagnostic center.

Is the any cheap reader units you can use yourself available??
