Evening all.

To try and keep myself from constantly pressing F5 on the UPS tracking page, I have been browsing through a pdf of the instruction manual that will arrive in paper version along with the rest of my nice, shiny new 7D body, and as a result, I have a question.

I see that the built in flash can be used as a master controller for remote flash units. I already have a 580 EXII which I know will work as a slave unit, but I can't by any more, as I've basically spunked all of my cash on the new body. However, I will be getting an £80 cashback cheque from Canon, which would probably just about stretch to a couple of these Chinese cheapies.

I've got an older, slightly lower-powered Yongnuo which I've used on manual mode for remote flash with cheapo Ebay transmitters, but was wondering if these ones would work with the wireless remote in the 7D?

I've got a few of those and a 600D so I can check that combo for you. I always use them as manual lights with radio triggers so haven't tried them with the pop up flash but it should be a similar set up I'd have thought. I know mine triggers a Canon 580 no problem. I'll report back...

woohoo

That's good news! Should give me full remote eTTL then?

Meanwhile, elsewhere, useless fact of the evening... Android spell check was absolutely determined to turn my "woohoo" up there into epiglottis!

Not with that particular flash you won't as they're manual only. There are some more expensive options that offer TTL but I've not tried them so can't comment I'm afraid.

Ah. I was looking at a few. I'll go back and find the other link.
