Just wondering if someone could help please.

Going down to brighton on Wednesday and looking to get there about 8/9pm. Is parking free on the sea front for a certain time?

The hotel is charging £20 a night but there is no gaurantees they will have a spare spot.

or can anyone recommend anywhere near the grand hotel?

Brighton used to have stupid voucher parking pretty much everywhere. Not sure if that is still in force. The are a couple of underground car parks down the road from the grand (towards Hove) but they are all pretty expensive.

Used to live in Eastbourne and work in Brighton, hated the place - both of them.

Was down there last week and parked in the Brighton Theatre NCP in Church Street which is only a few minutes walk to the front, not cheap though. smile

^^^ That's the one to go for.

I was there last week and got the 'evening deal', which is £5 from 5.30PM until midnight.

There is a 'Green' administration in the Town Hall (lead by one Jason Kitkat - I kid you not) who have a view of motor vehicles similar to that held by the unlamented ken livingthing - i.e. they are EVIL.
Parking charges were given a big hike earlier this year (pollution you know, nothing to do with filling coffers) and AFAIK it is £20/day to park on the seafront - though they have rowed back on some charge hikes after the locals protested.

Hotel car park is probably as bad as anywhere else. Google 'Brighton parking'

Vouchers gone, now replaced with punitively expensive hourly rates. Brighton has a 'green' council and they're complete s.

You can still park for free some 10 mins walk from the pier.

Just off of west street (near the travel lodge) there are two multi storey( which I believe is church street?) and an underground car park in a square about 30 secs drive from west street.

West street is 3/4 mins walk from the pier.

For really close to the grand the best bet is Churchill Square NCP, no idea how the charges will compare to the hotel's 20 quid a night fee.

The seafront is pay at machine. IIRC it only charges during daytime hours, you may need to go down towards Hove to find a space though.

Not Church Street, Russell Road, leading to Churchill Square car parks.

On street is free from 8pm to 9 am, then £3.50 rolleyes an hour. Haven't tried this recently but it always did work that if you paid for 1 hour from 7.30 pm it expired at 9.30 am.

You have to be quite along way out of town to find un restricted parking, the restrictions have gradually crept out to arounf 1.5 miles from the pier.

I parked on street at Regency Square overnight - so long as you are gone by 8/9am cost is minimal

Which hotel are you in?

I've been living at the Hilton since April and never failed to get parked in their car park. It's £16 per day but that may be just for residents.

The beach is over the road smile

Thanks for all the replies, we are down there two nights so i will use the hotel parking for the second night but will run the risk of trying to get a space on the seafront as i don't think we will be there until after 8pm anyway.

Can anyone recommend any pubs/bars for the utd v newcastle match?

I can thoroughly recommend NOT visiting any pub/bar on West Street. It is like the Wild West every night there.

The Caxton Arms is a nice, quite place:

My now wife and I had our first date there. I am sure it used to have a big TV screen next to the pool table that showed the matches. Might be worth giving them a call and checking.

I normally did too when I stayed in Brighton but it's apparently being refurbed so no entry for most of the day.

There's an NCP right behind the hotel but it's expensive and gets very busy when there's something on at the Brighton Centre.

Went to Brighton last month. Tried to find somewhere to park along the seafront, eventually found a space about a mile walk from the beach. So tried back in the centre of town. There was some NCP car park right in the centre, I pulled in and the car in front of me was reversing away from the ticket machine. I thought it was broken so went into the one next to it - but they reversed all the way out of the car park?? I thought this was odd, so went in anyway.

Came back to the car less than 4 hours later - £18 parking? WTF?! They obviously looked at the prices before going in. I don't do that...
