I have mixed feelings about this. Earlier RE games have had me hooked for days, but RE5 was dog st, to the point where I played it for 5 minutes and then switched it off to never be turned on again.

Anyone pre-ordered? Are there any reviews out there yet worth reading?

I actually really enjoyed RE5 in the end, but was really disappointed with the demo for 6. It's gone even further away from the old games, the Leon campaign is the most familiar to the older games, but the other two are akin to Gears of War. I've cancelled my pre-order and will probably pick it up in 6 months time when it's dropped significantly in price.

The RE6 demo was actually pretty good so I'm looking forward to picking up the full game on Friday. The best feature is 3 separate campaigns to play through featuring different characters.

There's loads more info available in the various wikis and trailers...

It's out tomorrow. I think you're one of the few who enjoyed the demo though. Review embargo doesn't seem to be up yet, so there aren't any reviews online, I can see it getting panned tomorrow when they do go up.

There are four separate campaigns, the Ada Wong one is unlocked once you've completed all of the others.

Well the reviews are coming in, and as predicted, it's not looking good. IGN gave it a 7.9, Eurogamer a 6 and Gamespot a lowly 4.5.

If you didn't like RE5 you'll hate RE6. I don't really care much for scores given by reviewer sites but RE6 is getting poor reviews. They've turned it into too much of an action/shooter game. It's closer to CoD then it is to resident evil. It's like they've changed the genre of the franchise.

I really liked RE:5 and have Pre-Ordered RE:6 after playing the demo. I'll probably play the Leon mission first as the others looked less Resident Evil like.

I think the Leon mission is meant to be taking it back to the original sort of format but the demo was quite short.

Apparently each mission is as long as the entire RE:5 so it will be a big game.

I've just finished the Leon campaign, I agree with most of the points the reviews are making, resident evil has lost its way somewhat, I loved RE5 as much as RE4, but it was right on the line of acceptable change, RE6 has gone just a bit too far.

My first couple of hours were dire, I couldn't figure out how to change the aim speed, which by default is set to zero, which is glacial. Aim speed settings are in camera options by the way, not aim controls, obviously.. rolleyes

Some fettling of the other controls are also recommended, you can make it play like RE4/5 which makes the experience 10 times better.

The spamming of QTE is ridiculous though, obscene actually, especially the climbing/crawling ones, why didn't somebody flag it up? Nobody wants to go through that, quite frankly climbing a rope in RE6 is a bloody ordeal.

I like being able to melee enemies at will though, but with the good comes the bad, a stamina bar, which when depleted turns your player into a pensioner, feebly tapping zombies with their toe.

It did get much better as time went on I felt, especially after I found an assault rifle, the final boss battle was epic, taking over an hour(!) I hope the other campaigns are not as slow to start.

Pretty much everything they left alone is as strong as ever, everything they changed is rubbish. Capcom - You need not appeal to every person on the planet, your fanbase is (was?) extremely strong, please stop changing the recipe.

P.s. I think to do local co-op you set the screen to "split" in the pre-game settings.

Many of the reviews have been pretty scathing, and it's currently on 66% at Metacritic. Having played the 360 demo I'd agree with a lot of of this. The Leon section was, but seen it all before. It wasn't scary either, since you have the generic interior that was supposed to be a busy university but looked like it hadn't been cleaned or used in the 10 years prior to the outbreak, and enemies you know full well would come alive the moment you walk over them or grab the key. The controls are poor (I never figured out how to use herbs) and whilst the graphics aren't bad, the lip sync is noticeably off.

Tried the Chris campaign and - oh dear. The cover mechanic is terrible and just does not work at all. Gears of War came out 5 years ago and plays far better than this. Got bored and try the Sherry campaign, ran out of ammo and got killed so gave up. I may get it when it's reduced, but not a chance at full price.

I'm a huge fan of Resident Evil, hence the username! Things started going downhill with Resident Evil 4 however and now this latest one is just rediculous. Awful camera angles, controls and menu systems that you don't really get to grips with. It felt like a beta version it was so badly polished. Ultimately it's so far removed from the originals that there is nothing left of what made them great. The only thing that I loved about this instalment was a scene where the camera fixes itself to a wall in a nod to the old third person perspective of the originals. Nothing happens, you just walk up some stairs in a third person view and its still the best bit of the game!

how does it compare to 5? I loved the old ones, but enjoyed 5 due to being able to play through co-op.

very tempted to buy 6 and play through it with a mate.

I don't like it as much as 5, in 5 you had breaks when you could chill for a bit, although I have only been playing Leon's campaign so far, but it seems pretty intense!

I too really like the co-op, it's much more fun than playing solo!

The problem I had with5 was that co op removed that sense of isolation. True 4 was scary either, but it was still creepy. Whilst the original is now very dated, playing the Gamecube remake in the dark still gives a purveying feeling of dread, not knowing what's around the corner, or not having enough ammo to fight every enemy.

Seems a shame that so many survival horror games are no shooters with a few jump scares and the lights turned off. I could say the same of Dead Space....

RE5 was probably the only big name game I have played for 15 minutes and put it down. I'll probably get this game when there is a lull in decent games.
