Mate just bought a 7.2 turbo S. So, whats the first thing you do...

1/find private road

2/stop and put hazards on

3/fanny about for 5 mins trying to get it to launch confused

4/open glovebox and locate manual

5/read out instructions to driver

6/SHOUT "OMFG"!

7/stop, get yer breath back, and do it again hehe

Also had a drive of said 'beast'. Makes everything else feel slow (even 7.1 turbo). 3.8 dfi unit sounds 100% better than the 7.1 3.6. PDK absolutely mated to car. Very easy and comfortable to drive, and every bit the 'weapon' figures suggest (0-60 less than 3 seconds and 100 in under 7). 7.2 vs 7.1 = night and day. Would i have one?.... ABSOLUTELY!

There'll be a C63 in the classifieds anytime soon....

This 'private' road......wouldn't be the A46, would it. wink

Friend of mine went from a 997 GT3 to a 997 Turbo 'S'.

He was initially a bit luke warm about the change but, 2 years on, he reckons it's the best car he's ever owned or driven, especially as it is so everyday capable.

Times I've been in it I was impressed, and sounded pretty good for a Turbo. Must get him to demonstrate the 'launch control' eek

I've found it's actually quicker off the line if you 'don't' use launch.

Launch gives lots of wheel spin (I actually think Porsche design this in to take some initial strain off the drivetrain).

I find it's best to hold less revs, and keep below the limiter that triggers launch. This way you get instant power that grips without lighting up the wheels.

Can't say I've ever noticed wheelspin in mine...
Do you turn the traction control off?

It did give some spin, but not 'lots' (bone-dry tarmac road surface), which you can understand and expect, but what was more impressive was how linear the car took off, ie no torque-steer. Computer wizardy at it's finest ?

re holding less revs (launch control not activated) - good call, will have to relay this info smile

If you're tyres are hot, and on a grippy surface it is quite minimal. Anything less, especially cold tyres on a cold day, and they just light up.

Yes I've always had the car fully warmed up before I try it, so that figures..
Btw they use LC all day long at the PDE with no apparent mishaps..

Yep. It's a monster! biggrin

.. And that's before you're gone to DMS or 9excellence to fettle it to around 600 horses.

What I really like is you can go out on a typical English sunshine day like now ( and for the next few days!) put the sports plus and still drive like you stole it. Love the handling, booting it mid corner, the RWD biased, that Pdk gearbox, the quality of the cabin, taking the family, allowing the better half to drive. There nothing more horny that watching an attractive lady man handling 530hp on a spirited drive from the pub bounce

Some people describe this car as a GT. I think the 997.2 turbo S is a OMFG! Car.

Ok off to a darkened room now and a quick rub down with a wet turbo S sales brochure....

100%. I think I'm finally sold on the turbo smile

PDK transforms this car into (probably) the quickest out-of-the-box road car on sale today. Did i read on here there was some issues with a turbo S with DMS tune - black exhaust tips - overfueling?

It'd also be interesting to see how far you'd have to tune the 7.1 to match the 7.2's performance. Anyone?

I reckon it's about the only thing that would tempt me out of the GTS.....wonder if I could get one on loan scratchchin Would probably look at getting the new version in 2013 if work goes OK and the waiting list is not mental.

There was one at a vmax a few months ago. Think the user posted about it afterwards. User name f1ksp.
It had a simple map from what I rember and blew away ALL comers at vmax. Awesome cars.
