Recently purchased a 997 tt
Discussion
Hi,
I have recently purchased a 997 tt. Love driving it.
i have been told that i should let the engine run for a few minutes before and after use - is this correct ? If so then how long should i leave it running for ?
Also i have been advised that i should push it too hard until the oil has reached temperature - what temperature should this be?
Thank you for your help

Congratulations on the purchase
Is your car standard or heavily modified? If it's standard you should not have to let the engine run for a few minutes either before or after using it. What you should be doing is starting it and driving normally while the engine warms up and oil/water temperature gets to the normal operating temps before "giving it beans". Once the beans have been given, drive the car normally for a few minutes to allow it to cool down again before stopping the engine.
The only road cars I have seen that require the engine to keep on running after being driven are heavily modified turbo nutter cars, but as my wife regularly points out, I am frequently incorrect so don't listen to me

Welcome to the club!
Oil temp should be around 87 to 90C before a spirited drive. As per previous poster providing the car is not heavily modified, gone are days when you have sit in you turboed car allowing the turbo to spool up or down with a timer... However with any NA or turbo car go gentle until the oil has warmed up and go gentle for few mins before killing the engine. If it a manual, it will give the gearbox oil a chance to warmup as well.
Above is definitely needed on my track car otherwise it gets very grumpy!
