According to the email i had on Monday from VTTS a Spitfire & the Blades will be doing flights next to 558 carrying competition winners who will be getting a once in a lifetime opportunity to fly next to the magnificent aircraft.

Incidentally, tomorrow is the 20th anniversary of the 558's last display whilst in RAF service. VTTS have a great photo on their website of 558 during her final flight, bomb doors open & the word FAREWELL written in large black tape on her bomb door.
Yet here we are, 20 years later, still being amazed by this epic aircraft. I cant help but think that some daft b
d at the MOD fked up 20 years ago!!!!!
I wonder what he, or she, thinks now every time they hear about 558 completing another awesome display? I wonder if they actually care?

If it had continued to display after 1992 it would have I guess been grounded in about 1996? Out of airframe hours or some such. Yesterday afternoon I sat in my car in the viewing area at RAF Lakenheath for an hour and saw no aircraft movements whatsoever.
Today I drove the Lotus over to Sywell, parked up on the main road and waited. At 2.00pm we all spotted the Vulcan in the distance, the 2 seat Spitfire and the Blades took off and disappeared to join the Vulcan over Northampton. The Spit came back but the Vulcan kept her distance. Eventually most people (me included) gave up waiting and went home.
Then at 3.30pm I looked westwards out my window and saw the old bird in the distance doing her flying display at Sywell after all!
