I did some photos of an Oldsmobile Delta 88 a few days ago for a neighbour who is wanting to use it for a wedding business - It is a lovely car but I suspect I've not done it justice.

(These aren't the photos I'm asking about though)

The agreement is that I take a load and he buys them from me - These aren't the photos in question as the agreement I have with him is that when I sell them to him, I give him rights (IP) to the photos and they become his to use as he sees fit.

Is this the accepted way to do it and, if so, should I produce some kind of transfer of ownership paperwork for this?

Thanks,

James

Sell him a royalty-free license to use them. Do it in writing so you both know what you're signing up for, but it doesn't have to be complicated.

Generally speaking, this lets the customer use the images for a fixed term/ in perpetuity without needing to pay anything further. You can agree conditions regarding personal/ commercial use.

He does not need copyright and nor should you assign it. That could prevent you being able to handle your own images for archive/ portfolio/ any other purpose, without his permission.
