Campag left shifter problems

Evening all,
Just wondering if anyone can shed any light on the shifter problems I'm having.
My original shifter (Campag Centaur) jammed after a shift from small to big ring. The thumb shifter was stuck solid and it wouldn't move back to the small ring at all. The LBS managed to unjam it, but it happened again a week later. All of this was within the first 500 miles of owning the bike, so they've sent the shifter back to Campag under warranty.
The shifter return is proving to be a major saga in its own right, but in the interim, the shop have fitted a spare Veloce shifter they had in the workshop, and I've been getting similar issues of late with this one as well. It hasn't actually jammed, but again the thumb shifter has been reluctant to actuate, and has taken quite a lot of extra effort to free it, although all then seems normal after that.
One thing I have noticed is that it often won't shift to the big ring on a single press of the lever, and I'm having to let it return and then press it again to get it to shift. I assume this isn't normal? If so, how do I fix that? It seems as though the problems are occurring if I press too far on the second shift, although I would've thought the shifter would have some sort of bump stop to prevent over-ratcheting?
Suffice to say, I'm confused, and if it's something I'm doing wrong, then I'd like to know what!

Don't know about Campag, but with Shimano and Sram it's normal to need two pushes to get into the big ring as the first push is to trim the mech if you're using the smaller sprockets.
Are you playing with it while you're not pedalling? It's possible to damage a shifter if you mess with it while the gears aren't turning as the you just push the mech against the chain and the shifter's internals are the weakest link. Definitely sounds like it's you not the shifters TBH!

I'm not playing with it whilst not pedalling, no. I am, however, coming to a road bike from mountain bikes, where I'm used to a single push changing in to the big ring, so maybe the issue is actually trying to get the road bike to shift on a single push and over-stretching the mechanism?Are you playing with it while you're not pedalling? I'll try keeping to two partial pushes rather than one big one tomorrow and see if that fixes the problem.

The offer is much appreciated, but the jammed shifter has already been sent back to Campag's UK distributor. This thread was more about figuring out what I might be doing to cause the problem. Khushy
