Friend of mine is thinking of purchasing a 2006 version with a Volvo Penta 5.0GL 220 hp petrol engine.

I've had RIBs before so cannot give him any advice on the boat. It will be used on the South Coast as a day boat (weekends mainly) with possibly some wakeboarding if capable.

Anybody know if these boats are any good?

I had one about that time, nice boat. I thought of it like a Jeep Gran Cherokee. Quite nice and did everything I asked it to do but still a little cheaply finished. Generally a very nice boat. Speak to Dave at Southwater Marine. Just one of life's nice guys!

I've had a play in one - as has been said, Monterey are better than your average Binliner in terms of build and the 218 is decent boat. The main thing to consider is that like many boats of it's type it is a fairly shallow V hull and does get pretty slammy in typical UK conditions. Give it a try and if the ride doesn't put you off it should make for a decent toy. Also agree with talking to Dave at Southwater for anything Monterey.

Understood, your post just came across as sort of pointless and obvious. Obviously you did not mean it that way.

He's aware that there are many other options but the prospect is he MAY be able to get the boat for a song.
