996 GT2 up for auction
Discussion
There's a silver GT2 being auctioned on Thursday at BCA Nottingham. Number plate MY04GTZ. From the appraisal it looks like it has had a lot of paint all over.
Anyone prepared to take a punt?

does the appraisal not suggest that the paint may be original but scratched/dinged/marked?
as always at auction, take precautions!
polar silver 996gt3 mk2 stopped bidding at £24k last weekend so there seems to be a reluctance in the trade to snap up these things at the moment. wrong time of year for a punt i'd guess.

That ebay advert failed to point out it was a MkI even though wih MkII wheels and carbon spoiler would have suggested it was a II.
Obviously buyer beware and anyone looking at it closely could have found out.
But that the seller did nothing to correct the obvious trap is dishonourable to my mind. The story about why it's been painted is therefore undermined to me.

I am completely lost about this one - if it is the same car that was for sale on ebay, it must be the same person who then said a few days ago that the car did nor sell and that as a result he kept it to make it a track day car. He is making substantial work on it. Why the car is now being sold at an auction ? I do not understand this. It is possible that I am getting confused with all the posts on the 996 GT2.

They are two different cars; the chap who is working on the car has a Basalt Black car and the car being offered is Arctic Silver.I hope this helps.
Thanks EVOeng, I can see now that it is not the same car. I did enquire about the grey one a week ago and the seller seemed genuine to me. He did mention the accident and vandalism so I do not think he is dishonest. For someone who is keen for a cheap 996 GT2 it may be worth having a look.

Fair play then. What were the details of the damage? Seems the auction house isn't happy with the paint on the entire car.Could turn out to be an absolute bargain.

Anyone who advertises a GT2 on here as a MK2 when its a Mk1 is indeed a bit daft... Cred lost forever on that one I'm affraid. An up front description would have done him no harm, he could have potentially quite easily met his aspirations in terms of selling price. As it is nobody will touch it because it's now suspect - so it has to go through possibly the worst place ever to sell a GT2 - an Auction.Obviously buyer beware and anyone looking at it closely could have found out.

Why someone with such an iconic would repair the paint so abysmally is beyond me.
I'm sure it will go for half decent money though for what it is. I don't think it will be a bargain. BCA is usually expensive even with premium cars. And I'm guessing your average joe premium car seller will think its interesting probably never having seen one before at auction and take a punt on it.
Let's see.
