Just put a deposit down on the white 997 GT3 at Nick Whales (CCBs and CS seats) looking forward to getting back into something nice following a couple of years out of sports car ownership.

Couple of questions

Who does the cheapest replacement front splitters (in anticipation)?

Any decent aftermarket wheelbots that dont rust, ie titanium etc?

Are porsche standard exhausts about as good as the accoustics get or is there something out there that will be as spine tingling as my old stradales were on full chat

Looking forward to meeting up with some of my friends of old (lots of familiar names in here ex ferrari owners) and new friends ... once i take delivery.

Gratuitous pic lifted from NWs site (ps great people to deal with so far ...)

Nice car.
The sound is fine as it is. The splitters are £140 from most opc's

Lovely car, just like my old one.
Its going to sound pretty mute coming after your CS , though its a great sounding car , just not as shouty as the Ferrari.
Much better brakes though.
There are 2 or 3 threads going on about exhausts at the moment. Akrapovic is the quality choice but there are cheaper alternatives around that offer great sound.
Front splitters are available from people like Fearnsport,9Meister, JZ and Parr cheaper than Porsche and there's a motorsport alternative which is cheaper.

Congrats!

I just love the rear end on the 7GT3s.

Regarding the wheel bolts, I just do what a few others on here do and fit those plastic covers. £10 on ebay. Chrome or black.

Porsche bolts never stay mint for long.

Stunning car! Enjoy.

I found the Scuderias similar, although slightly larger, Brembo discs were powerful when warm but no more so than the Porsches. But the Porsches dont need you to warm them up before they are effective and have any feel, in fact the low speed modulation is fantastic at all times and they aren't scratchy like the Ferraris are when your braking lightly.Much better.
I had a couple of occasions when the Ferrari just didn't stop when it's brakes were cold. Nothing dangerous you understand, just overrunning white lines by a metre or 2 but it was disconcerting.

Ah thats interesting, yes the Stradale definately operates loads better when brakes at temperature (much the same with traction and its preferred tyre). Though, in real world use very little occasion when one got to enjoy the full benefit of the CCBs.

Porsche steel brakes are brilliant too so the advantages are not that clear cut. Probably not £5500 clear cut.
Having said that, the cost of the brakes is half what Ferrari charge and there's lots of alternative aftermarket options if you are worried about wear.
Day to day, the car feels a little more supple and of course the wheels dont get coated in brake dust all the time.

None to worried about the running costs, its part and parcel of owning an expensive car unfortunately ... got used it over the years.

agreed re the brake dust, it was always pleasurable washing the stradales and not getting black crud everywhere.

CCBs are a virtual no cost option when buying a car second hand so preference for me will always be to have rather than steels.

Quite agree Rob.
For road use they make a lot of sense and there's no premium attached in the used market.

The reason I mention the Ferrari "costs" is that they are judged by the ECU in the car and replaced when the service diagnostic says they need replacing. Based on how often and how hard they were used. Replacements for a CS were £10,000 + labour , and that was after a shop around.
I was looking seriously at a higher mileage Strad which needed them.

There was originally loads of forum hype about the strad needing replacememt discs after every second set of pads, etc, etc.

All i can say is that i drove both of my cars as hard as i wanted, did around 30,000 miles and never needed to replace. Theres many owners who use their cars whom i know that are still on their original discs ... TonyH springs to mind.

Re ECU diagnostics on stradale .. i understood that the discs were weighed to get a more accurated idea of wear.

You're quite right Rob,
The only way to be sure is to take them off the car and weigh them. The car i was looking at had 35000 miles and 20% remaining. Recommended to change according to Ferrari. By contrast my Scud had only 11% worn after 10,500 miles so that suggests 80-90k before replacement required. Maybe I drive like a pussy.

I believe the same is true of Porsche CCs, that they need to be weighed to establish when they need replacing. I think they are pretty long lasting unless you use them on track a lot, i.e. more than 2/3 times a year.

Tony's discs were replaced by Maranello's last year IIRC

Splitter - buy the "Cup" version as it's alot more flexible - 5 min job to replace. Costs just under £90 from Porsche Reading

Exhaust - lots to chose from. Sharkwerks bypass pipe for my RS. Easy to fit & brings the car alive IMO

Congrats on purchase BTW
