I wouldn't be surprised

Speaking of which, I saw some strange camera thing being erected (ooer) on the M25 near Heathrow today. It wasn't a blue Trafficmaster thing, and it didn't look like a gatso, more line ET really. What's that too?

Paranoid from Wiltshire.

The new cuttings are all the way along both sides around junctions 12-15 on the M4.

The camera thing was on the M25 clockwise between J13 and J15

The M1's suffered a rash of cuttings in the last few months - just for installation of those electronic noticeboards which always seem to say 'Don't Drive Tired' rather than the more useful 'There's stationary traffic straight after the next junction'. Presumably because the m-way traffic would get off the m-way if they announced the latter, leading to blockages, pollution and accidents on the local roads...

Probably overhead displays and the marshalling boxes for them...

You could hang the pies from posts like they used to with mail sacks for the trains.

Small bags with one or two pies could be hung over the middle lane and obviously the big bags full of "all the pies" would have to hang over the inside lane for truckers and the outside lane for all those fat BMW drivers who are always in it regardless of prevailing conditions!

Wouldn't worry about it.. it's for the VMS signs (variable message signs) - the big boards that say useful things like "congestion ahead" or "slow - fog" and "accident ahead"....

This seems to happen quite often on the M4, a few years ago they dug a huge hole in the embankment at the side of the J8/9 roundabout, took several diggers a few weeks to dig it out, then they just filled it all in again with gravel. I reckon it's a either a scret plan to dispose of low-grade neuclear waste or more likely a bunch of local pikey's who've got a contract to supply a few tons of top soil. Having flogged the top soil they tout round to find some other sucker who wants to get rid of a load of hardcore. Job done - double bubble - move on - dig up another motorway somewhere! Rich...

Just spoken to a mate of mine at the Highways Agency... apparently they're also building "acoustic barriers" between J5 and 9, with lane closures at night..

hmmm.... are all parts of the M4 below the Watford Gap? - if so, then I'd agree it's part of a (sensible) north / south divide...!
