Dunlop Race Academy
Winner to be flown to Monaco for beer and treats
After three months of searching and over 6000 applicants, the winner of Dunlop Race Academy was decided after the gruelling final stage at Silverstone.
Derby-based Andrew Walker won the title after the final three contestants took part in a track ‘shoot-out’ on Tuesday, August 17th. South-West finalist, Andrew Maw was the runner-up and Cheshire-based Stephen Cope took up third place.
Andrew Walker said: “This is a dream come true and so fantastic to win. I can’t believe, from the amount of people who entered, that it has come down to me! Competing at Brand’s Hatch with the big boys was always the main objective for me and Monaco is going to be the cherry on the cake!”
During the final stages, each driver received tuition and coaching from Britain’s top GT driver, Calum Lockie. During the final, the contestants took Calum’s Porsche 968 Clubsport round the track before sitting their ARDS test. The panel then assessed the drivers as they moved into the fully race prepared Ginetta G20 for solo laps.
Andrew passed his ARDS test with flying colours, which gives him his racing licence and enables him to compete at Brands Hatch in the Dunlop Drivers Cup, a round of the Ginetta Championship, on October 2/3 as part of his prize.
Following this, Andrew will experience a celebrity lifestyle including a club class flight to Monaco for a two-night stay in David Coulthard’s Columbus Hotel, helicopter transfers, bespoke tailored suits, Louis Vuitton travel bags, a new Breitling watch and many more celebrity trappings.
