Our watering the flowers a few minutes ago, and just saw a single typhoon very very low, flying one of the military transit routes that the apache's usually use. Then gives it full throttles... Reheat very visible in the failing light before climbing and passing over Andover Town at a high altitude.
Fast jets are very rare over this part of the world.

I must have the stereo on too loud, didn't hear it. Headed out of Boscombe maybe or doing a flypast at MOD for someones leaving drinks.

Not sure, it was heading south, over the Portway / DLO, then pulled vertical and rolled back towards Andover at high altitude

...and over again...

Sorry. Just noticed the wording. getmecoat

We had one fly quite low over our house in Northants at twilight last night, possibly heading home from its Olympic duties at Northolt, maybe even the same one you saw? First time I've seen one flying at that height/direction. What suprised me was how quiet it was, just crusing home. I am so used to them bursting my eardrums on re-heat at airshows or take-off!

It'll probably be out of Boscombe. Any trials or release to service work on the Typhoon will be done by them. As well as operational types, fast-jet-wise Boscombe have Hawks, Alpha Jets, SAAB Gripen and until recently a few Tornado F3s. As a local I agree that they don't launch FJs particularly often nowadays. A workmate was lucky enough to blag a trip in the back of the ETPS Jag T-Bird when it was still flying a few years back.

EDIT: Just realised you mentioned the low-level followed by honking into the vertical bit. Might well have been someone's do at DLO/HQ Land as mentioned. Stand outside on the grass for a round of gin & deafness. I remember a few years back at Middle Wallop there was a reunion of old boys who had flown the Hawker Typhoon. They were treated to a low, fast and reheaty display by the modern equivalent that afternoon, after which the phones rang for hours with noise complaints. Nether Wallop's gentry didn't like it up 'em!

I saw it too. Well, heard it, then popped outside, and saw it.

Just had a Griffon-engined Spitfire go over heading north. BBMF Lancaster went through heading west on Wed afternoon. Speedtwelve Towers is just to the east of Thruxton.

We should have a little local pub gathering I feel. How about the White Horse in under the 303?

Not anymore - Fast Jet Test Squadron who did this type of work disbanded. Typhoon trials are done by BAE Systems at Warton, or 17(R) Sqn at RAF Coningsby (or a combination of the two)

ETPS are still at Boscombe, but they don't do trials or RTS work as such.

Didn't hear or see this. frown
I am normally the first person to run into the garden on hearing such things.
I work on the Portway ind estate but live the other end towards Picket Piece.

I had just got back from Greece so this is my excuse. biggrin
