Budget wheel upgrade suggestions.

I'd like saome advice and ideas please.
I've had my bike (Felt F95) for a year, and so far I've resisted the urge to upgrade.
However I've found £200 "down the back of the sofa" and I'm tempted to replace the original Alexrims that came with the bike.
I need a Shimano fitment but apart from that, I havent a clue. My LBS is quite pricey and has nothing in stock under £250.
Is buying a set of used wheels a good idea, or do I stick with new?
I use the bike mainly for a 20 mile round trip commute and some longer 40ish mile rides in the weekend.

Shimano fittment? As in those splined brake discs they make? That will limit your choice.

That aside Superstar wheelsets are well regarded and you can't beat them for VFM. Colours are a bit lively though.

No disc brake on my bike, it's a regular road bike.

The weight of most Shimano wheels tends to be concentrated in the hubs, so whilst there, it's not as prominent (if that's the right word?). Plus you get hand built (IIRC all Shimano wheels are hand built, rather than machine hand/hand checked) with one of the best hubs around. Good wheels!

I picked up a set of Shimano RS30's last year from Ribble for £130 delivered, not the lightest on earth but nice wheels for the money and a definite upgrade from my stock Felt F75 wheels.

Alpha 340 rims are not known for their stiffness in 28 or even 32 hole flavour. God knows what they would be like in 20/24 unless you are a sub 50Kg rider but good luck with that....

I was in your situation a few months ago. I had £200 maximum to spend and was getting fed up of my Alexrims buckling and becoming untrue after what seemed like every ride.

I bought some Fulcrum racing 5s from Merlin cycles. They are very strong, I have not had to true them in over 800 miles of riding. They currently retail at £149.

They can do if mistreated, of inappropriate build for the riding or rider, or if just plain badly built and rubbish.
