I'll be near Monmouth at the weekend and it seems a shame not to head out to the park whilst I am over there (Don't get to see to much nice scenery around London).

Are their any must do road around that area?

The A470 appears to cut straight through the parks.

A4059 is great - well-sighted, picturesque, etc.
B4560 is a new favourite of mine after discovering it recently.
A4069 just about counts as being inside the park if you have time to make it that far west. smile

Aside from the traffic, you'd be hard pushed to find a bad road over the Brecon Beacons. The A4069 (home of the Evo hairpin) is definitely a highlight, though. Just make sure you do it from North to South.

It's worth pointing out the good roads aren't confined to the Brecon Beacons. If you're coming across the M4 bridge I'd highly recommend a short detour to include the B4235 from Chepstow to Usk on your route. Likewise, the B4520 and B4519 are pretty good if you plan on heading north into central Wales.

The A4069 is a must do in the Beacons IMO.

The Wye Valley road Chepstow >> Tintern >> Monmouth is lovely n itself but can be spoiled by the 'oooh lovely view' brigade
Monmouth >> Abergavenny via the B4233
A40 >> Crickhowell - left to Llangattock - right for B4560
Go right (north) at junction to viewpoint - about turn and run back to Beaufort
Beaufort - Heads of the Valley road (A465) >> Merthyr >> Right A470 toward Brecon
Just short of the Beacons Reservoir - Left on to A4059 back south to Hirwaun (via the village of Penderyn and home to welsh wysgi)
Back on to the HoV A465 >> west to Glyn Neath
(i don't know the best way to Ystradgynlais but probably A4109 - A4221 - A4067 (south)
At Ystrad. - RIGHT at A4068 >> Brynamman where you'll join the A4069
[North to south is better but you could always double back and back again]
>> LLangadog - stay on A4069 >>
>> Llandovery A40
Left/Right on to A483 LLanwrtyd Wells >> Beulah >> Garth
At Garth - Right (under railway bridge) on to B4519 over Epynt >> B4520 >> right via Upper Chapel and Lower Chapel >> Brecon
Head north east out along A470 >> Bronllys >> A438 >> Glasbury - continue on to Hay on Wye (B4350) - exit on B4348 (turn right just after Cinema Bookshop)
Stay on this all the way to just south of Hereford via Bredwardine and Madley

At A465 turn south for Abergavenny until
Locks Garage
A465 Northbound
Hereford HR2 9AS
Opposite, turn LEFT B4348 past the TRAM INN >> Much Dewchurch and Wormelow
Turn right on to A466 >> Monmouth

A lot of detail (sorry) and quite a run but it incorporates many of the good roads in the area

+++++++++++++
Roads around Bala are great but it's a long way from the Beacons
though
i would heartily recommend a good few in that area smile
