Red aircraft warning beacons

Just wondering if the PH air-experts know why there are more appearing?

I live on Cannock Chase and in the last week or so have noticed (now the morings are darker) new lights (they definitely were not there last winter) on both the top of the Wrekin (over in Telford) and also atop the smoke stack at Four Ashes chemical works north of Wolverhampton.

Is this a national thing? Are more of these beacons being deployed?

Saw one in a field near beadnell strange as the nearest airfield has been shut down since 1950s.
