Does anyone here make an effort to platinum any of your games ?

Does anyone here actually make an effort to get trophies at all ?

I don't know what to think about trophies / achievements. I think if they are done well they can something to a game, like a trophy in a race game for beating a certain lap time in a certain car on a certain track etc. In that case it should add an extra challenging time trial challenge. Some of them though just seem to need you to grind out boring repetitive tasks for far too long.

Yet, to some, they have become quite an important part of gaming haven't they ?

I wonder if it takes something away from the games as well though, people now seem to want to trophy guides before the game has even been released. I like to play a game 'blind' and if I miss a load of trophies then so be it. The thought of playing a game alongside a trophy guide seems silly to me. Then again I think a lot of the challenge has been taken out of gaming when there are so many guides and walkthroughs available on the net now. Although I think this is a problem with not just games but films as well, we're at the point now where even before you've played the game / watched the film you know so much about it. I don't like this.

The DLC for Dark Souls is out on the PC and I'm trying to avoid all information about it until I've played it, so far so good, but it's so difficult to do that and still follow the online Dark Souls community in anyway.

That was a bit of a diversion, but trophies Yay or Nay ?

Trophies seem a quick and easy way to add longevity to games it seems to me.

I've never got a platinum though, they always seem rather difficult to get and I'd rather be playing a different game than keep repeating the same one over.

Depends on the game for me. For a game I enjoy, then yes I'll have a go for platinum. However, I don't do a lot of online gaming, bit of a retro solo player or co-op player, so if there's too much online content, I'll not bother. I think I have around ten or eleven in total. Mind you, spend far too much time on the bloody things when I really should be doing something more productive.

I was playing LA Noire and really wanted to get all the trophies and get 100% game complete. Didn't happen in the end as was way to time consuming.

Only if there is an actual reward, like bonus cars in Gran Turismo games. Completing achievements because they are there is a sign of OCD.

i'll go for achievements once i've got the game etc but i wont read them before completing the game as often it does spoilers - the halo 4 list is out but i'm refusing to read them

they do add a certain challenge which often ends with frustration but they're fun.

some of them are just generic eg kill 50 guards with the hidden blade but then you get the occasional gem of an achievement

like in red dead redemption - you have to rescue a maiden in distress only to take her to a rail road and get her run over by the train - the achivement is called dastardly!

others are just incredibly time consuming - like in crackdown collect 1000 orbs or something crazy like that. gta iv had kill 500 pigeons which was just insane and boring.

the worst one ever was in the simpsons - you got 10G for simply pressing start.

The Simpsons thing sounds like a reference to this game: http://armorgames.com/play/2893/achievement-unlock...
