Hello

The gear linkage in my 944 seems to have a lot of play, to the point where it makes it hard to change gears. I remeber i had the same problem in an MG i used to own, I popped off the gaiter and found a nut was very loose.

I'll do the same with this car tomorrow if I get a chance.

I have been looking for new linkage kits and short shift kits etc. Does anyone have expirience of this problem in their car? What work have you done? I would like to get it feeling as precise as possible.

Comments, info and links to parts much appriciated.

The gear gaiter and knob are in a bad state so I may replace them also, with a geniune Porsche unit if possible.

Cheers

Jonathan

Have a look here :

'clarks-garage.com' - go to garage shop manual - transmission - click on 'shift lever and shift linkage .....'

Pretty good site for 944 info and tips.

Two areas, bottom of the gear lever there are some plastic bushes, they could be knackered, easy fix.
Knackered bushes on the rear linkage which is not easy to do, I would do gear lever first. Plenty of details on Clarkes or come on www.tipec.net forum & Jon Mitchell will give you the answer or another member.

As has been said there are two areas, the easiest/cheapest thing to do is change the gear lever, it gets very worn where the rod attaches, I did mine last year and made a huge difference, cost me £39 from Porsche and took 25 minutes
