Road bike for £400 ish ?

As I've got hard tail mountain bike but it doesn't do any wonder for my fitness level, fancy starting on road bike after watching lots of TdF and Olympics !

Only problem is that I'm bit lost on which one to go for !!

Currently quite like Claud Butler Criterium but are they any good or there is better alternative? I'm novice to road bike and would like to try out.

If you were down in sunny Devon i would flog you my 2 month old ribble race bike....would want 500 for her,there is not a mark or blemish on it.The reason for sale is i fancy a full carbon and have a few bikes at prescent so one has to go.:DWorth well over a grand new and i have the reciepts to show.Will post up piccys if your keen sir.

I quite fancy a carbon Ribble too but a bargain alloy sounds interesting.... Pm spec?

B'twin Triban 3, or second hand. Either that or stretch your budget a little to the £500 mark where the big names start competing.

Honestly buy used. There are tons of used bikes at all price points that have hardly gone any further than round the block. Apart from the whole "new shiny things" attraction I have no idea why people buy new bikes. £400 on something like this wouldn't see you far wrong:

Get a mountain bike, XC types, more pratical, you can take it to off road and you can fit road tyres to it if you desire. i think they are called Hyprid.

Just to add a bit of spice i have a ribble winter frame,with mudguards stem etc,and a Massi ultralight race frame that is a real looker in yellow/blue with the odd red flame here and there that i would chuck in with the above.......Yes i know im mad but we are moving next year and im having a clear out.

Your not going to get an amazing new bike for £400.00. if you do decide to buy new at around this price range , just make sure you upgrade to better hard wearing tyres, the tyres on these lower end bikes are really poo.
Punctures are a real pain

BTWIN triban 3 @ £299 from decathlon sports takes some beating, google for reviews. You'll have to spend a lot more to get anything better!!
