Picked up my new 991 C2S Saturday morning at 9.30 from Porsche Chester, covered about 380 miles over the w/end.
Went for a run Monday evening,on return when pulling up to my drive noticed a patch of oil where the car had been parked frown on inspection suspected transmission fluid. Car is now at OPC waiting for a new gearbox oil cooler! How pcensoredd off am I.

frown Hope you get it sorted soon, did they at least give you a decent courtesy car?

I'm sure this will be silly, but you sure it's not just water from the air conditioning?
That was what I hoped when I saw the patch on my drive, but afraid not.

Bugger! Hopefully a quick fix, kinda takes the shine of a new car though!.... You'll soon be back in it. Had my first drive in a 991S over the weekend! Wow, what a car! Seriuosly impressed, thought I was going to be disappointed but really really want one now!
It's not a major job just waiting on the part. Have to say the car is fantastic.

Been informed my brand new car needs a gearbox oil cooler? Anyone else heard of this problem? I'm told it's a 2 hour job when part arrives tomorrow, so I presume nothing major has to be removed. Has anyone any idea of what's involved.

You don't say if its manual or PDK, if its manual I think its the square box under where it says reverse gear in the picture, I think the manual 991 has a heat exchanger type oil cooler rather than a mesh one. So its not a very big job at all, but they will want to take care and take it for a run and make sure its 100% for you so hence 2 hours of course I could be completely wrong.

Pity the factory didn't make sure it was 100%.

Yep but unfortunately as wonderfully glorious, exclusive and expensive as it might be its still a mass produced product with automated sub component assemblies, Look at the RR Trent 900 in the A380 Airbus, failed because of a mis-aligned bore in a lube system union, now you imagine how much scrutiny that assembly must be under, the perfect world we all seek sometimes doesn't materialise and its very annoying and frustrating when it happens and takes the shine off something you love for a while, but it'll get fixed and probably go on faultless for years, make sure they valet it back to showroom condition and go back and pick it up for the first time again !

Oh and most importantly have fun in it, you lucky bugger smile

know how you feel at least you managedmore miles than me. Brand new 911 Carrera 4 GTS picked up on the Thursday evening. Went for a run on sunday morning ended up on back of a transporter. 307 miles in total and the transmission failed, stuck in 6th then lost all. A pdk box, to make matters worse when rang Porsche they kept telling me I was in a Diesel Cayenne as those were the details they had, so would not do anything. There words drop it of at the nearest dealer, told them it was a sunday ,was told buses still run on a sunday. Not really happy as at the other side of the country.
After managing to get them to arrange recovery to dealer where car purchased from, salesman rings my wife up and asks if I have been on a track in the car.
Did not ask me, was told it could be driver error and the computer will tell them what speed and what revs I had been doing. Told them as it is PDK should it not change automatically, but I could have been driving in manual. Told them I would discuss it the next day when I was feeling calmer and rational.
Late following day after many promises to ring me, they ring to say they need to get a part from Germany. To be fair it only took 3 days to sort.
Be interesting to hear what they told you, it has never been seen or heard of before I was informed.

cheers

PDK gearbox. Don't think it's a major job and they have loaned me another 62 plate 991 C2S, not sure about the red trim though!

This could be the ideal opportunity for you to really get to know the 991 on UK roads as it's not your car and you ahve a long drive ahead of you. Why not go through Wales on the minor roads until you get to the M50 / M5 and just cruise from there?

Would be interested to hear your thoughts after a decent hoon...

They do seem to happen quite often with Porsche, though, don't they?
