1984 280SL Trim Advice

I am in the process of acquiring a Classic White with burgundy cloth interior 280SL. The internals are a bit shocking and the rubbers and external trim need replacing. I have looked at various search engines for parts but without much luck. Would anybody know the best parts people I can use to get seats retrimmed, new carpets, replacement seals and rubbers. Thanks

For (leather) upholstery, these people are the best there is: http://www.gahh.com/ any half-decent upholsterer will be able to fit the covers/pads &c. Gahh will send out to the UK. The cost is not that bad for perfection.
Try also www.cabrio.de. The best hoods and what not by a long chalk. I suspect their upholstery will be first rate, too.
Don't forget the dealer. You can get access to the electronic parts catalogue here: http://www.auto-parts.spb.ru/cat/cats/m.mycat?cat=... easier with the chassis number. And then you can get prices for most part numbers here: www.mercedes-benz-parts.co.uk. My local dealer gives me 20% on parts but I spend about 5grand a year with them. Merc parts are either hilariously cheap or hilariously expensive with no real rhyme or reason as to when it is the former and when the latter.
There are a lot of Ebay breakers. www.mercman.net is helpful. And there is Dronsfields. These last two are much more helpful if you pick up the phone and speak to them. Beware breakers for trim, though: the cars are scrapped for a reason. German Ebay is pretty good, too.
Finally, it costs a lot, an awful lot, to make a tired car fresh, a neglected car new again. The mechanicals are cheap and easy, it's the trim that costs a packet.
