Mornin' all,

My sister is moving house and has no room for her mahoosive 3 seater sofa. Me being the caring brother that I am have decided to pinch it.

I was contemplating hiring a van, driving down and then driving back up, but the thought crossed my mind that a courier service might work out cheaper (plus, I am completley ignorant of how big a van I can drive etc.), just exploring my options really - not having to drive down and back up is a bonus.

Anyone got any suggestions?

I'd guess a days van hire would be £40 plus insurance waiver and fuel, assuming it manages to crack 30mpg would be around £70 plus obviously your time to do the job so realistically it could cost up to £150 time you factor in a McDonalds for you and the mate who good at lifting heavy things and always seesm to have spare time on his hands (we all have one of them!) so yes, a courier or shipper may do it for less but then there's the logistics of somebody being in at both ends on the specified day etc. I'd opt for a van... lifting and shifting stuff is always a good laugh and pretty student type blondes in Clio's seem to have a certain attraction to two goons driving an hired Movano.

Try www.shiply.com

Basically you put up what you need moved from where to where and you'll get various courier companies bidding for your business. Some will be massively overpriced, some will be really cheap. Just choose whichever one suits. I've used it a few times, works well.
