Just a quick note to let people know that I had my restoration workshop at Cultybraggan camp in Comrie, Perthshire broken into on the 12th of August this year. All of my tools were taken including compressor, welder etc. and all of my personal cars were vandalised.
Unfortunately for me I am not covered by insurance as they gained entry with a key! They will have had a key for both the compound gate and my unit and of course had plenty of time to relieve me of everything that I have gathered over 35 years of being in the trade.
Needless to say that very few of my tools were marked apart from my old Snap-on roll cab which had various stickers fro the BTCC in the '80s and ''90s on the top cab and my brand new Parweld 171 welder for which I have a serial no.
If anyone is offered any tools I would be very pleased to get some of them back and if I can catch the thieving ***** I will be happy to pay out a reward.

Obvious question, but do you know, or think you know, who did it if they had keys?

It would appear that my Landlords had been a wee bit easy on the key register prior to my taking over the unit so no unfortunately I can't point any fingers.

mmmm check with a solicitor, surely your landlord should have passed the property to you as secure. i.e new locks?

I'm not a fan of the compensation culture, however if I rent a hotel room and its burgled. I'm really not into the idea of the receptionist saying sorry we cant do anything five thousand people have stayed in that room...they have all had a key ???

My commiserations alfa; I had that happen to me some years back.

But let me get this straight. Are the insurance company saying you're not covered because the thief managed to get his hands on a key?!

You need to mention 2 things to them; lawyer and ombudsman!

This has boiled my piss, I'm furious on your behalf. A man's livelihood is taken from him and some prick sitting in an insurance office had decided he gets fook all because entry was gained with a key? That stinks.

Keys are easy to get hold of, duplicate keys, bump keys, use a mechanical lock picker, it's deeply unfair to give you nothing because entry was gained by means outside your control. This get-out-of-jail-free card the insurance company have played is disgusting.

As above, call the Ombudsman, failing that, a solicitor.
