Connecting Garmin GPS to new ipad

Does the ipad allow you to connect a Garmin device (e.g. the 200) to an ipad via a USB ? I would like to be able to download GPS (.fit I think) rides to upload to Strava.

I understand that other tablets wouldn't have a problem, but I really like the functionality of the ipad...and it's lovely retina display.

the ipad doesnt supply enough power to the usb port through the camera connect kit, and i suspect when attached it would require a driver which isnt available. If i remember I'll give it a go this evening. I imagine the garmin connect site wont be able to upload files as you need to install an applet for that to work, but if you just want to get the files off you might be able to transfer them to dropbox or similar
