Why is it that Porsche seem unable to 'engineer out' the tyre roar on their cars? I know, on a decent surface - like they all are in Germany (ho hum) the cars are quiet - but on the average B road in the UK the noise is annoying at least and wearisome at most.
Bear in mind that I am runnig PS2s then some of you on 'louder' rubber must almost need ear defenders.......
Or is it just me?
I have not driven/been in a 991/981 are they any better?

Yeah. This is a personal bugbear of mine. The 991 Pirellis are similar (sightly quieter perhaps) to the 997 on PS2s, but I doubt anyone knows what PS2s are like on the 991 for a direct comparison. Bridgestones, IMO, are ear-splttingly noisy.
However, one big improvement in the 991 is B road compliance. I just followed a 997.1 C4S down a challenging moorland road and he was being thrown around something terrible. Sat behind, my 991 just calmly ate up the road and could have chewed up the 997 for good measure if I were that way inclined (I'm not) and if there had been safe overtaking opportunities. So much more composed.

I think it's predominantly British roads.
Apparently we use a noisier asphalt than many parts of Europe, such as France and Germany, which is supposed to be less expensive and harder wearing.
I did see some official comparisons that show 19" PS2s to be marginally quieter than Bridgestone or Pirelli. And, I did drive a 991 on Pirellis and thought they were hardly any quieter than PS2s on a 997 (Turbo).
