Anyone else get odd favourites in Flickr?
Discussion
Evening all,
I've just been posting some holiday snaps on to my Flickr account. I'm not one of these paranoid people who make pictures of their kids private in case Pedo-bear is on the cyber prowl, but I've been surprised by a couple of complete strangers in remote parts of the world adding pictures of my kids as favourites within 15 minutes or so of them being added.
I have no delusions in terms of thinking that these photos (shown below) are masterpieces, so what gives? Has anyone else had people unexpectedly setting their photos as favourites?

On my flickr, I have a lot of swimming and surf life saving photos and lots of photos of my mates doing odd things.... (so this means speedo's shots and some of my friends doing unspeakable things in those port holes you can find in some pools for a laugh). Seems to go down well with the gay underwater fetish guys though!
Every day some new weirdo has favourited a lot of my pictures and when you look on their profiles (after having agreed to the 18+ disclaimer) you find all sorts of odd images like underwater feet fetishes and pictures of young lads posing underwater or being "held" under water. Very strange.

I get odd requests to join odd groups, e.g. some of my shots of Female Athletes have resulted in requests to join "perfectly formed female abs". I just look to see if a group is relevant but stuff like that is just silliness.
I am pretty sure you can block or remove unwanted "favourites".
For shots of your kids I think these can be made "private" or only viewable by selected members, e.g. nominated friends and family.
Quick update: I just looked at the profiles of people who have added some of my photos as favourites. It appears that 2 of them just add other people's pictures and don't have any of their own so I have blocked them. They're obviously just picture-hunters with no contribution to make.

I posted a couple of shots of a model in a swimsuit holding a pair of flippers. That appealed to an interesting cross section of Flickr users!
I often get people with nothing in their stream favouriting my images. I guess these are looking for photos to pinch so I block those users. I get so many images nicked off Flickr anyway, but it makes me feel like I'm doing something to make their life a little less easy.

Very sensible. I hide all my best shots so as not to show off and just make the rubbish viewable to all.
It would seem, from historical reports, that many a great artist has done exactly the same thing allowing them to remain virtually unrecognised in their lifetime but considered to be the pinnacle of art in death - a classic career move.
So Mr. Dobbler, I have a couple of quid I might be able to invest in your work but I really need to know whether you will snuff it before I do (I suspect that is unlikely but stress I have no insider knowledge nor contact with contract hit-persons) before I can commit to investment. Plus I would need a contracted assurance that no heirs of yours might otherwise release the material into the wilds of Flickr (or other worldwide media outlets) after your demise by inadvertently undoing the privacy constraining button.
As an alternative trade you might be interested in an 'equities' swap for some of my 'private collection' items as a sort of hedge against the vagaries of popular 'taste' so often exhibited by the general public and the super-yacht living ultra-rich. And, now I think about it, pretty much everyone in between.

Sorry, can't share the Private Collection. It wouldn't be private if I did!
However if I ever remember the key to access it I will be sure to offer you first dibs on the viewing rights.
