Race Wheels

My Son (15) is about to do his first youth race, and in a couple of weeks a hill climb TT. As a treat and to encourage him, I am thinking about upgrading his bike, a 2011 Specialized Secteur. I have already replaced the heavy 2300 chainset with a 105 one and am now looking at his wheels. He is now running Continental GP4000s tyres (must get some of these for my bike!!) and I have the chance of a set of either used but good condition Mavic Ksyrium SSC SL or new Fulcrum Racing 3's, both for about £350 for the set. Which set should I go for?

If he does OK and looks like he will race the whole season next year, Santa will most likely bring him a new carbon race bike.

If he is 15, he is an "Youth A" category rider so the important thing is to make sure the gearing is legal if its a requirement for either event. there is some info here on gearing which might be relevant.

The Fulcrum 3s would be ideal, they will most likely be better than the wheelset on the new bike santa brings so could see a lot of use next year, fortunately they are easy to rebuild/regrease too.

I'd want them cheaper than 350 htough, wiggle are doing them new for 400
