I live and work in the Motherwell area and use the slip road to go onto the M74 north very frequently.

I have noticed a massive amount of cars smashed all at the same point. One Sunday and monday. Most of the accidents are the same; Car slides directly right to left into the barrier or flips over the left barrier into the grass.

The surfaces vary on that stretch and there is one approx 20ft section which is worn and always seems slippy. It can't always be spilt diesel as it happens too frequently. I must have seen about 30 wrecked cars in the past year.

Be WARNED! Not sure who the cops or road authorities arent doing anything about it. I have noticed it being 'slippery' in most of my cars, even the 4wd passat. Even going slowly, say sub 50 it can do a small 4wheel slide.

I am contacting the traic dept about this.

My old housemate bounced off the barrier there in his Ford Ka while doing about 40mph. 'Tis certainly a bad section.

Another bit with the exact same problem is the Northbound slip road coming onto the M74 Northbound from the Happendon services. Just after you exit the roundabout, red road surface. I've seen many a car in the hedge there and been caught out a few times myself.

I go round that in the Hgv bout 40ish in the wet doing a full drift. Also drifted in my merc 8 year ago and corner ain't changed. What's not helping is the camber change and water running across the corner.

I concur. I use this slip road daily heading to work. The fence is damaged in many a bit and the sign took at rattling recently. I tend to travel that bit slowly in the daily barges, but in the Westy its a good roundabout for a controlled drift

Ohh yeah, it can definitely be a fun bit of road if you judge it right. I managed to spin a 1.4 nissan almera on it which was fun...

If i remember correctly, it was a BMW of some description which i saw resting against the sign a couple of months ago.

About 5 or so years ago, when I was travelling to Braehead daily from Holytown, I would regularly see cars in the crash barriers just after the Kingston Bridge travelling westbound.

I reported this to the authorities and they admitted that this was an issue and advised that the whole bend was going to be given a full coating of the anti skid surface.

This was done and has certainly solved the issue.

So please do raise this and hopefully you will get reaction.

Don't know if you ever drive on the road from Motherwell into the new college and Ravenscraig sports arena - the road at the beginning has the anti skid surface but it has totally broken up already and is like driving over a shakedown test track!!

This is a pretty good idea for a thread actually, couple of times recently I've noticed that if you're heading east on the M8, just past the M80 cut off, in lane 3, and it's wet, an inordinate amount of water will get chucked at your windscreem from whatever happens to be in lane 2, to the point that with the wipers on 'rally mode' it was still a veeeery long 2 seconds-ish before I could see properly again.
Is that the Cumbernauld road off ramp? Have seen several cars in rass at at that point just after off ramp
