I had a go on my brother's specialized langster (steel frame, chrome finish) the other day, and really enjoyed it. First road bike I'd ridden too. Unfortunately it seems to be no longer produced (they do an aluminium one I think. Would prefer the steel one). I've had a hunt for comparable bikes but couldn't find many... Does anyone have any suggestions?

But if you look on EBay, LFGSS, or google for them, there are loads about.

£100 on ebay should get you a nice 80s falcon/raleigh/peugeot or townsend, then spend another £100 on the singlespeed conversion parts and you are away....

I have a barely used Langster, about 300 miles, 2010 model. Its black and debadged. It's a 56 cm and I'm a little too big for it. PM me if you are interested.

There are plenty of crappy SS fixes to cash in on the passing hipster trend, but there are limited decent ones. Was riding alongside a guy on a genesis flyer the other day and he had swapped out the cog for a 14T and had a 50T chainring. He really was flying and it looked a decent bike. He did have legs like Sir Chris Hoy mind....

thanks guys! slomax - that was my impression too - lots around (they seem to generally involve brightly coloured wheels?) that cash in on the trendiness here. I really enjoyed the simpilicity of my brothers bike and the feel of the frame, which i guess is due to the material. it felt great - it was stiff under power but really compliant and comfy (i've only ever really ridden hardtail mountain bikes before). I am basically after a cheap-ish (because of it's simplicity) but good quality bike, rather than a trendy thing with poor components.

oh sorry croyde, it slipped my mind , I would be very interested but I've ridden a 54cm one and that was borderline too big so I think at 56cm my little legs won't reach the ground. sorry

No worries. Wasn't until I bought a 58cm Spec Comp did I realise it was too small. Has sat in the shed eversince.

There's loads of second hand aluminium Langsters on 'the bay', I recently picked one up myself, so there may be some steel ones too if you're happy with a used one.

That's more of a track bike as opposed to the 2007-2011 ones which were SS road bikes with track ends. Horses for courses but I prefer the older ones, for the road at least.
